Top 10 Books That Transformed My Life

A few people asked me to recommend a book for them to read after I posted a message saying that I spend most of my time reading. I immediately rushed to my impressive library and it was difficult to pick one book and I ended up with a list of 11 books. If
you have read any of these books below you will agree with me that they are indeed transformational. I hope you find this list informative. Reading makes you think, challenge your views and carry you to new horizons.

The Bible

The best-selling book of all time tells the story of sin and redemption, the story of mankind, of despair and hope. Apparently more than 5 billion copies have been sold and you should wonder why. It is quite literally the story of our lives and it needs no further explanation.

Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill

This is arguably the best personal development and wealth building book of all time. This book conveys the experience ofmore than 500 men of great wealth, who began at scratch, with nothing to give in return for riches except thoughts, ideas and organized plans. It belongs on everyone’s bookshelf.

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Steven Covey

This book presents a holistic, integrated, principle-centered approach for solving personal and professional problems. The book reveals a step-by-step way for living with fairness, integrity, service, and human dignity–principles that give us the security to adapt to change and the wisdom and power to take advantage of the opportunities that change creates.

How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnergie

Dale Carnegie believed that financial success is due 15 percent to professional knowledge and 85 percent to “the ability to express ideas, to assume leadership, and to arouse enthusiasm among people.” He teaches these skills through underlying principles of dealing with people so that they feel important and appreciated. You learn how to make people like you, win people over to your way of thinking, and change people without causing offense or arousing resentment.

Awaken The Giant Within by Antony Robbinson

An absolutely incredible quantity and quality of self-improvement strategies are packed into this inspirational book. Robbins’ intensity and commitment almost physically jump out at the reader, urging you to wake up, take control and massively improve the quality of your life and those around you. I bought this book 15 years ago and continue to dip into it every so often to shake myself up a bit. I must confess that I prefer more to listen to Tony than to read his books.

The Secret by Rhonda Byrne

The book is based on the law of attraction and claims that positive thinking can create life-changing results such as increased happiness, health, and wealth. The author claims that as we think and feel, a corresponding frequency is sent out into the universe which attracts back to us events and circumstances on that same frequency. Try it and it works, well only if you believe.

The Breakthrough Experience by John Demartini

This book is about breaking through the barriers that keep us from experiencing our true nature as light. It presents inspiring scienceand philosophy in a way that is completely accessible to anyone, to reveal and explore the universal laws and principles that underlie our very existence.

Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom

This true story about the love between a spiritual mentor and his pupil reminds us of the affection and gratitude that many of us still feel for the significant mentors of our past. This book has had more impact on my life than many books I’ve ever read, by far. It’s a reminder to appreciate the simple, little things in life. It’s a reminder that when you’re dead, the things you’ve accumulated and the things you’ve done will disappear. What will remain is the ways that you’ve affected or touched other people. It is a simple book to read with simple messages reminding us to live fully and in the moment and to treat others with respect, kindness, love, and dignity.

The Road Less Travelled by M. Scott Peck

This is a book about living; living in a way that sets you apart. Peck divides the book into four sections: Discipline, Love, Growth & Religion, & Grace. But in these sections he addresses everything from falling in love to solving problems and dealing with pain. Scott uses examples from years of practicing psychotherapy and makes you examine your mind, your feelings and your heart deeply and objectively. Most of us find that difficult. This book I must confess is not easy reading but its worth every second and all the effort that you put in it. This is probably because the subject matter gets your mind working almost from the first word.

True North by Bill George

The book is based on interviews of over 125 powerful leaders including and discusses the qualities and effectiveness of “authentic leadership” and its viability in the business and political worlds. Five dimensions of authentic leadership explained in the book includes: leading with purpose; practicing solid values; thinking from the heart; developing enduring relationships; practicing self-discipline
